It’s sad to see that even many recruiters in our country don’t understand the difference between a CV and Resume, let alone a job applicant. Most of the applicants and recruiters treat the terms CV and Resume inter-changeably when they’re not even close!
Simply put: a resume is a one-page summary of your achievements while a CV or Curriculum Vitae is a two or more pages long in-depth documentation of all of your achievements and other accomplishments like publications, awards, honors etc.
This is a Resume:

And this is a CV:
[gview file=”http://www.sayemfaruk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/CV-Sample.pdf”]
And these are the key differences between them:
CV |
Resume |
|
Purpose | Record of full working career | Brief summary of skills and experiences |
Length | 2 or more pages | 1 page |
Level of detail | Extremely detailed | Concise/To the point |
Areas covered | Education, publications, awards, honors etc. | Adapted for every position |
Formatting | Chronological/Timewise | No particular format |
Changes | Static/Doesn’t change | Dynamic/Customized for every position |
Usage | UK, Ireland, New Zealand | US, Canada |
Terms used interchangeably | Bangladesh, India, Australia, South Africa etc. |
Hope this clarifies a lot of confusion that’s out there.
